Abstract
ProceduresClinical research personnel must be prepared for clinical audits to be con-115.1.ducted at any time during a clinical study to ensure compliance with GCP.(However, there is no such thing as 'surprise' GCP auditing at study sites, as personnel must be given time to assemble the necessary documents).115.2.The clinical audit department will notify the clinical research personnel of audits to be undertaken in advance of the audit.The following items/documents/procedures may be audited: 115.3.SOPs (e.g.contents, comprehensiveness, control, distribution, access, promptness of review); Qualifications and commitments of sponsor/CRO personnel (e.g.organization chart, job descriptions, qualifications, experience, training, specific study assignment, current workload); Investigator brochure (e.g.contents, comprehensiveness, control, distribution, access, promptness of review); Protocol, protocol amendments, CRF, CRF amendments (e.g.contents, design, comprehensiveness, control, distribution, a review to determine that the data required by the protocol and protocol amendments are exactly reflected in the design of the CRFs); Qualifications and commitments of site personnel (e.g.CVs, qualifications, experience, training, specific study assignment, current workload); Sponsor/CRO and investigator site agreements or contracts (e.g.contents, comprehensiveness, control, distribution, access, a review to determine that agreements cover the conduct of the study, confidentiality, indemnity, insurance and finances); Ethics (e.g.ethics committee/IRB correspondence, approvals/disapprovals, membership lists, working procedures, contents of all information sheets and consent forms, documentation of consent procedure, compliance with consent requirements); Monitoring (e.g.contents, comprehensiveness and distribution of monitor visit reports, telephone contact reports and correspondence, minutes of investigators' meetings, frequency of monitoring visits); Study sites (e.g.source documents, accuracy, legibility and completeness of CRFs, compliance with protocol, methods of correcting data at the investigator site); Contract research organization (e.g.compliance with agreements with respect to other items in this list).(Comprehensive audits of CROs will be undertaken at various stages in the study.One particularly important stage should be during the actual selection process for a CRO); Clinical laboratories (e.g.compliance with agreements with respect to other items in this list, analyses and analysers, adequacy of quality control procedures, clinical laboratory protocols, accuracy of reference ranges, and means of collecting and transporting clinical samples).(The auditors may be required to audit clinical laboratories for selection purposes, especially if a central clinical laboratory is to be used); Management of study medication/device (e.g.documentation of the methods of transport and management of the study medication/device from the
