Abstract
This chapter first outlines how professional standards function as a set of expected behaviours and a form of assessment in academic work and research. It discusses why feminists are critical of how professional standards have emerged and how they continue to be used to evaluate scholars in accordance with social hierarchies that valorise hegemonic whiteness and maleness. The chapter reviews professional standards in relation to research in the main areas to which they apply, guiding the reader through an overview of ethics policies; equity, diversity, and inclusion recommendations; monitoring and evaluation processes; and knowledge mobilisation.
