La réalisation d'un cédérom plurilingue, déclinant le même conte ("Miklós fils de jument") dans ses variantes ("Jan de l'ours"), avec la langue romani comme langue de "traverse" au cœur de la variation, ouvre à une réflexion sur la traduction. La traduction d'un conte peut-elle être un moteur pour apprendre des langues ? En Romani, traduire se dit paruvel, échanger, ou changer. La traduction d'un conte est à la fois prêt et échange, interprétation plurielle et polyphonique, entre l'écriture, le son et l'image, un intervalle de création. Depuis sept ans, l'expérimentation autour de ce projet suscite la générosité des créateurs : Cinq conteurs professionnels ont enregistré leur interprétation personnelle. Des étrangers et des enfants ont inventé des variantes dans différents groupes d'apprentissage du français. Des traducteurs européens les ont traduits. Des artistes ont proposé leurs images. Ces parcours se croisent en une multiplicité de contes semblables et différents. Les motifs des contes, gravés en icônes, imprimés en couleurs, répétés et disposés en tableaux, analysent les variantes du conte. Métaphore de la toile et du tissage, l'ordinateur est une autre mémoire, stratifiant les écrans, superposant les thèmes en patchworks tissés de liens, brodés ou cousus par les mots à inventer, les listes à compléter, les histoires à raconter. Cette thèse analyse la multiple variation de l'image et de l'imaginaire, dans la répétition du même motif éclairé différemment par chaque conteur, sans jamais se laisser figer. Le cédérom illustre l'idée que le conte est un cadre abstrait de narration, un objet métis qui traverse les cultures.
