Médiateur·trice entre deux cultures, le/la traducteur·trice littéraire joue un rôle essentiel dans la reconnaissance internationale d’une littémoorature. Dans cette communication, nous exposerons, via le portrait (à l’image de ceux recueillis par Jean Delisle à l’Université d’Ottawa), la diversité des formes d’interaction entre les écrivaines belges (Doff [1859-1942], Rolin [1913-2012] et De Mulder [1976-]) et leur traductrice néerlandophone. Selon Delisle, une traduction ne peut être comprise qu’en connaissant la personne qui traduit, « lien vivant entre le texte original et sa traduction ». Ces portraits nous permettront de mieux comprendre certaines stratégies traductives ainsi que les rapports – inégalitaires sur le plan symbolique – entre autrices et traductrices. Les mécanismes de publication au sein des maisons d’édition seront également abordés dans notre étude. L’analyse des rapports inégalitaires entre l’autrice et sa traductrice se fera plus particulièrement à la lumière de la théorie du simpatico de Lawrence Venuti. Selon cette théorie, le traducteur « travaille mieux » lorsque lui et l’auteur se découvrent mutuellement au début de leur carrière, possèdent une « sympathie sous-jacente » ainsi qu’une identité commune. Alors que la théorie de Venuti, issue de son propre vécu, se concentre surtout sur l’expérience du traducteur, nous envisagerons ici un simpatico exclusivement féminin. Les outils offerts par la sociologie de la traduction nous permettront de finaliser notre étude en comparant les rapports autrice-traductrice au cours des trois phases de la littérature belge distinguées par Klinkenberg : la phase centrifuge (1830-1929), la phase centripète (1920-1970) et la phase dialectique (1970- …)
